These are challenging and untested waters but we feel optimistic that we will come through this stronger and better together. We’re all trying to adapt to this new normal together yet supporting others from afar. There’s not a great deal any of us can control right now except caring for one another and ourselves. For those of us who are at home, we can use this time by taking a few moments everyday to reconnect with ourselves and make a big difference in how we feel. Take time to invest in yourself in a holistic way, see yourself as mind, body and soul rather than as disconnected parts and take time for you to nurture, contemplate and grow. It is the greatest gift you can give to yourself.
Why not brighten your day by making your home your sanctuary. We are all finding different ways to self-soothe—cooking up a storm, mindful meditation or simply luxuriating in a steamy tub. When you take care of yourself, you feel better. Here are some of our favorites:
Express gratitude.
It’s beneficial to keep track of what we’ve done and to appreciate what we have. Keep a journal by your side and note the things that you feel lucky to have...everything from clean sheets to a good friend. Track your accomplishments and be proud of the things you’ve done today. Journaling can improve your mood, provide an opportunity for positivity and is a great way to decompress.
Nourish.
Focus on eating healthily and mindfully, but take time and enjoy doing it. Having an optimally functioning immune system is more important than ever and it starts with food. However, too often we eat our meals while multitasking or deny ourselves the experience of our favorite treat. Crack a recipie book, take advantage of a local food delivery service or treat yourself by indulging in a delicious snack without any distractions.
Open your mind.
“Reading is a way to expand my mind, open my eyes, and fill up my heart.” Oprah Winfrey. Finding a book you love is uplifting and a great way to feel happy. Whether its looking forward to a favorite story or exploring a new idea, the act of reading can both make your mind come alive and encourage a sense of peace.
Create a self-care kit.
Gather some pampering face, body and wellness products that make you feel special and treat yourself to a spa day. Place your pick-me-ups altogether and keep them close for when you need an extra dose of love. When the mood strikes, get the hot water brewing for a relaxing tea and set the mood with a sweet smelling candle. We love a bath’s restorative powers - why not warm your soul while soaking in bubbles or uplifting bath salts. Turn on some tranquil tracks, unplug the phone and you are set.
Keep strong and take care of you...your way.
